有教無類，不偏不倚

服刑人員袁某是一名80后，只有初中文化。曾經在他“內存”并不大的腦子中，“義氣”占據了絕大部分的“容量”。為了幫自己社會上認的“大哥”還債，他翻墻入室到別人家里去“找”值錢東西變賣，結果自己因盜竊罪入獄服刑。
入監初期的袁某除了常常與他人發生爭吵和小矛盾之外，因為文化基礎差，在新岸文化藝術中心的繪畫基礎訓練的學習過程中還發生了很多笑話，進步十分緩慢。
對于袁某的表現，主管民警并沒有感到失望，反而是更加耐心地啟發、引導他，并且根據他的實際情況讓他參加了非遺葉雕的學習。

因材施教，有的放矢

葉雕的歷史可追溯至西周時期，在葉片或圓滿或殘缺的自然形態基礎之上，利用葉片縱橫交錯的脈絡，展現出豐富的藝術形象。自2018年提籃橋監獄開展非遺進大墻活動以來，監獄多次邀請上海市長寧文化藝術中心的李老師來到新岸文化藝術中心傳授非遺葉雕技藝。通過積極營造“養心、自律、成長”為主題的寬管文化，為寬管罪犯提供更好的勞動和教育項目，也讓寬管罪犯在藝術矯治和文化熏陶下，為回歸社會做好準備。
當袁某第一次看到薄如蟬翼的非遺葉雕作品時，除了感到震撼之外也對自己的能力產生了深深的懷疑。自己這個大老粗，能在薄薄的一片梧桐葉上雕刻出這么精細的圖案嗎？完成這樣一件優秀的葉雕作品，十分考驗制作者的耐心，而耐心恰恰是袁某最缺乏的東西。
在一次談心的過程中，袁某向主管民警坦誠了自己的想法，甚至有了放棄的情緒。主管民警推心置腹的對他說，“沒有不帶刺的魚，同樣也沒有不帶缺點的人。每個人都有自己的缺陷和不良的情緒。但是，我們必須充分認識自己，承認自己的缺點，并下決心改正它，戰勝它！”
得知他的情況后，小組里很多同犯也經常教授他一些簡單實用的繪畫技巧和葉雕技法，這讓袁某非常感動。同時袁某自己也認識到如果不努力，就會讓這些幫助他的人失望。

循循善誘，發蒙啟蔽

隨著時間的推移．袁某逐漸認識到曾經的自己是多么的幼稚可笑，一個人如果連自的情緒都無法掌控，又何談用雙手改變自己的命運？
在葉雕學習的過程中，袁某性格上的乖戾在潛移默化中漸漸消失了，心性不僅變得平和，遇事也冷靜了許多。每當他漸漸去除葉片雜質的時候，心情也隨著制作過程變得平靜起來，當光線透過剔透的葉片時，他覺得自己的心靈也得到了凈化。
袁某通過一年多的不懈地努力，終于成長為習美工作室葉雕小組的技術骨干,他的葉雕作品多次在監獄局系統的罪犯習美展中進行展出并獲得獎項。
提到這段改造經歷，袁某深有感觸的說，“我們遇到的最強大的對手往往不是別人，而是自己。因為人的缺點常常是很頑固的，人或強大或弱小，是由能否戰勝自我而決定的。在接下來的學習過程中，我會繼續用心學習和感悟這項傳統技藝，用更加積極向上的心態面對接下來的改造生活。”

藝術矯治，以文化人

袁某的藝術矯治經歷，不僅是新岸文化藝術中心眾多參與藝術矯治的服刑人員中的個例，更是提籃橋監獄自1983年“藝術矯治，以文化人”的矯治理念落地生根以來，藝術矯治實踐的一個縮影。這四十年來提籃橋監獄對服刑人員的藝術矯治實踐，必將作為一個重要篇章被永久銘記在提籃橋監獄發展的歷史中。
